Learning to Type - A New Homeschool Review!

About a month ago I was looking at the newest review that we could be a part of and it was for The Typing Coach Online Typing Course. I was reading about it out loud and my eldest daughter ran over to look at what I was looking at on the screen. When she realized she saw the video commercial of The Typing Coach she jumped at the chance to use the program and we were blessed with the review.
The Typing Coach

So what is The Typing Coach? It is a program designed to help anyone learn how to type quickly, accurately, as well as with proper posture so it is also comfortable. The big push of the program is to be able to type without looking back and forth at a screen while you type words from a paper. It is also so you can have mastery of the keys of the keyboard (or typewriter).  Here's their commercial - check it out!

Typing by touch is so much faster then the 2 finger method that a lot of people use. The Typing Coach has a goal that by the end of the course they will be able to type 10 words per minute with only 1 error. They are really big on mastery so they give lots of practice sheets for you to work on getting each section correct. You are also taught how to sit properly with good posture and positioning as well as use all of your fingers, not just 2 or 4.
As you take the course you are able to work at your own pace following the directions in the audio instruction. They suggest at least one lesson per week over 10 weeks. We have tried to stick with this, but Arianna wanted to be sure she had each lesson down so it's taken her a little longer to complete each lesson. There are also videos as well as written instructions which is helpful so that all learning styles should be able to use the program. Not only are there practice assignments, there are also tests and work tasks to help you practice your skills.
Each of the tests are both timed  and have an end objective. Once a test has been taken the parent gets an email with the results. If they do not pass the first time with the requisite score (only 1 word wrong for every 10 words) they will have to wait 2 days before they can take the test again. This allows the student to have more time to practice and work on their accuracy and proficiency.

Since my daughter was the main student and she was working independently I asked her to tell me her thoughts on the program. Here's her review:
If you listen and open to everything he says you will become an excellent typist. After the audio lesson is finished if you had any mistakes you will want to re-listen to the audio again. Once you complete the audio instructions without any mistakes you will take what is called a Learning Check for the lesson you are on.
I highly recommend this program. I have used other programs and in 2 to 3 weeks I have not felt they had helped me to learn anything other then the placement of my fingers. The Typing Coach can be used for anyone that is willing to take the time and effort to do the lessons and practice. By the end of the program you should be able to type like 20 to 40 words in one minute or less with 1 or even no mistakes! Happy typing! Oh and be sure to type at your own pace. Don't worry about being slow - slow and steady wins the race.

If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming more proficient in their typing skills then I definitely would have you check out The Typing Coach. The cost of a one year access is $17 per typist. I also like that my daughter is learning how to type by typing and not playing typing games. She has greatly improved from the beginning of this course and she looks forward to her lesson each day.
