Dogs are are people too. We have an old boxer who about a year and a half ago we thought was getting toward the end of life. We did some research and changed a few things, he perked back up.
Skip forward to about 2.5 weeks ago ... we were awoken to what sounded like someone falling out of their bed and slamming into the wall. But it wasn't a child. It was our old man boxer having what we know believe was a seizure. He had no way to stop his flailing and really couldn't respond to us. His respiration was labored and fast. Once (what seemed like a lifetime, but was only a minute or so) the episode subsided we tried to help him get up as he stumbled around walking aimlessly. Finally coaxed him outside after many hard steps that seemed very difficult. He came in, drank a ton, then laid down in the living room and refused to go to his bed. So we decided that one of us would sleep with him there.
When we woke up he acted like his normal self. I kept notes of all that had transpired and prayed it was a one time occurence. Unfortunately the next night it happened again, shorter, but still as abruptly. We then decided to take him to the vet as soon as it was open.
They checked him out, did some physical examination, and ran some bloodwork. They all came back mostly regular a little low on two things which was explained by how much he urinates. We left knowing he was ok, it is something that could come out of nowhere and never return, and to keep a log of what his days look like. And that's what we did. And he's been mostly normal, other than a few times walking around outside he'd be a little limpy on his right side.
Then all of a sudden out of the blue last night at 2:15 in the morning, he had another seizure episode. We tried to calm him and keep him still, but it just has to run its course. He then slept in the living room with my wonderful husband. In the morning he seemed back to normal. We have another vet appointment scheduled for the morning and we will see what she suggests.
In the meantime, will you pray that if this is his time that he will not suffer and pass without too much stress or hardship. He's a good ole boy and we just want him to be comfortable.
