So what's it all about? Well let me tell you - it's a 36 week curriculum that is easy to use for your tweens and young teens all on their own. This focuses on WHO God is and draws on truths from The Lords Prayer. One of the things we loved about it were the FULL color illustrations all throughout. When we received the package all we had to do was find a 3-ring binder that we could put the loose leaf pages in because all the pages were already whole-punched.
All you need to get started would be a Bible, a pencil, and a dictionary. And you can have a variety of Bible versions KJV (King James Version), ESV (English Standard Version), NKJV (New King James Version), NIV (New International Version), NASB (New American Standard Bible), NASBRE (New American Standard Bible Revised Version). These are some favorite Bible translations and many of them are easier to understand. My daughter's Bible uses ICB (International Children's Bible) so she decided to use NIV because she could use the Bible app on her Fire.
My daughter has been slowly and steadily working through the Weave Your Word lessons on her own, with a little help now and then from dad or me. Each of the lessons are grouped into a themes -- God the Father, God the Son. In Part 2 it continues with What God Wants and God the Holy Spirit. There is also a way to purchase these as one whole package and you will get all 80 lessons which would cover 2 years of Bible. She chose to do her lessons at a time when I was working with her younger brother on his one on one lessons with me so she would be less disturbed.
We also liked that it was based on the Lord's Prayer, which we actually pray nightly as part of our nighttime routine. The way the author has broken the prayer down helps to teach these young adults how to talk to God with their prayers. It is a rhythmical prayer called My Whole Self Before YOU that has been modeled after The Lord's Prayer and broken into the 9 units of the 2 parts of Weave Your Word. At the end of the package is also included an answer key which comes in handy when I haven't read the whole Scripture that she is completing.
Each lesson includes a variety of questions including fill in the blank, multiple choice, descriptions, definitions, true/false, matching, lists, etc. There are also beautiful color pictures, little cartoons, and definition boxes. Then at the end of each lesson is a My Prayer section where the child gets to complete the prayer, but has some help ... a great start to their own version of a prayer journal. There are also activities that were compiled and created to complement the study. They include videos, puzzles, art and music, even extra worksheets all of which help your student really delve into Bible study and help the Bible truly come to life!
When I talked with my daughter about her thoughts and favorite parts this is what she told me. She really likes the prayer writing at the end. She also enjoyed the activities that she can do with the lesson. She really liked the potter rap! There were many cool ideas throughout the activities and an't wait what others we find - like the upcoming making a foot soak will be a favorite.
I think this is a well rounded full curriculum that you could easily use as a small group resource or even a Family Bible study. You should all check out Weave Your Word in Me -- Part 1!
