"It's So Yummy I Can't Hardly Eat It"

The title says it all. If you haven't figured out what this post will be about I'll give you a few more hints. (And by the way - the title, is a direct quote from my almost 5 year old Friday while we were eating lunch.)

Back to the hints. It has tons of good nutrition in it, almost something from every food group. It can be eaten for any meal, as well as a snack.

Any guesses??

That's right! Pizza!!

Well over the past week we've been working on the Pizza Party Unit Study from Download-N-Go. And it has been awesome to say the least. Our study brought us to the wonderful country of Italy and taught us about some wonderful cities and people that all came from Italy. (I was hoping that the study would show us a way to transport us, but it didn't happen. Guess that Amanda hasn't figured the science of that out yet. :) Maybe someday soon!)

Some of the wonderful things we learned included the following:
Day 1: Pizza—What Is It?
Day 2: The Story of Pizza
Day 3: Types of Pizza
Day 4: The Science of Pizza
Day 5: Let’s Have a Pizza Party

We even learned how yeast works. First we had to get all the ingredients together.  Then mom had to take a picture.  The girls were so excited.  We had to wait until we could find a package of yeast before we could actually do the experiment.  Here's a video I took of the girls during their 'presentation.'

We had to do it in two parts - since we had to wait. So here's the second part:

Then I had this wonderful idea - why waste the activated yeast? So we didn't. We made pizza! What a great way to end a week full of exploration and learning. So we got all our ingredients together and made two of the three types of pizza we learned about - a Sicilian style ...

and the Chicago style.

Brother was very happy to be enjoying the fruit of this unit study.  Yummy!

We also were able to put together a wonderful lapbook. Don't know what a lapbbok is? That's okay! Inside each Downlod-N-Go unit study there comes directions on how to make one. Your basic supplies are file folders (any color), paper, cardstock, crayons, markers, or colored pencils, as well as glue and a stapler. Then you can help your children to make a lasting memory of all you learned from the unit.

Each unit study comes choc-full of activities to fill up your lapbook. Each Download-N-Go study is one full week of learning. It covers everything from languages arts to science to music. Personally I think that there's plenty of information in each unit study to last a full two weeks. Another one of the awesome selling points is that they cost only $7.95 for the entire study. Even though these unit studies are geared for K-4 I think it would be very easy to "add" a little to it to help be able to use it for all your children - even into high school. I had a blast learning all about pizza and Italy and I've been out of school for quite some time. :)

And I have 2 more awesome things to share with you! First of all, this weekend there is a special sale going on for the DNG Pizza Party unit study. For a very limited time (only through 11:59pm Sunday evening) this unit study can be bought for only $5!
