Online Science Global Topics with CrossWired Science ~~ A New TOS Review!!!

Are you looking for a unique way to teach science to ALL of your kiddos? Then you will want to explore CrossWired Science which provides online science learning in an intersting and engaging way with Sound, and Fluid Dynamics. And I do mean ALL of your students. CrossWired Science wants to show the glory of God through Science and has made it accessible for 4 year olds through scientists to an AP Biology student and everyone in between.

CrossWired Science breaks down the deep scientific ideas into bite-sized pieces that make sense even to the youngest of students. Of course they'll need to study it again when they are older and the way that these Global Topics of Sound, and Fluid Dynamics have been built, that will be very easy to accomplish. What is a Global Topic? It is a base scientific topic like Sound or Fluid Dynamics (the two that are currently available with a plan for 24 to 30 to come in the future) that has been "crosswired" to a multidue of subjects. Each of these two topics have over 29 "lessons" that can be used over a month or longer. Each unit/topic has been divided into two sections -- First Timers and Second Timers. These lessons are done so that all of your children can learn together, but also at their level, so your older students will have more work to complete while the littles just watch the core videos and do an experiment here and there.

This Christian worldview program is built as a self-paced online curriculum that at it's base has core videos followed by online test with immediate scoring.

As you progress through the month of study you will find other General Links, Experiments, Field Trip ideas, Gold Digs and Digging Deeper sections, with even more links, Readings, Research, Reinforcement, and even Devotionals (one scientific and one for teens). If you are looking at this for the First Time you would use the First Timer strand. If you are further along in your science studies then you could start with the Second Timer strand.

Experiments

Each of the units has a core of 8 videos which run the gammat from introducing the subject to 'deep' within the subject. But each video can be watched by all and you will glean more the older and more advanced in science that you are. We started with Fluid Dynamics. The 8 core videos include:
FD and Bernouli; Wrights and Foil; Carb Venturis; Planes, Whiskers, & Alulas; Hummers &; Dolphins; Boxfish &; Penguins; Nose Aerodynamics; and Dogs, Slobs, &; Cats. The Sound unit also has 8 core videos which includes Sonar, Infrasound, Dolphins, Bats and lots more!

Once you reach the Digging Deeper and Gold Dig sections of the unit you will notice you are diving deeper into the scientific concepts with the use of  stunning pictures backed by text and questions to be explored. The Gold Dig topic for Fluid Dynamics unit is all about Bones.

So as a First Timer you will begin by watching a video. After the video there is a quiz and once it is complete you will have it scored right away. At a glance you can see ALL that is included in the lesson. Also on the right you have a glance of how far you have progressed in the unit. As you can see we are only a little ways in, but it is so full of information that we have been taking it slow. We also have put on order some books (from the reading section suggestions) at the library on different areas within Fluid Dynamics that have my son intrigued so that he can be reading about them throughout the month.

Once you enter an area there is a little red box that has directions and info. You can click here for a more detailed description of what to do for the unit. The core videos range between 4 - 8 minutes long and keeps the attention of my VERY active 10 year old as well as my older teens. For some of the lessons there are also worksheets like this one we printed for Fluid Dynamics to be completed after watching the lessons.

Next are Experiments. We printed a few out that interested my son. But what he REALLY wants to do is raise 10 freshwater or saltwater fish. I told him we have to wait to do that experiment until we get our last load (hopefully and prayerfully) of items from our SC home when we go in May. That experiment tells us to   And you can print out any of the experiment sheets which have all the supplies and directions on how and what to do to complete it.

Then you can choose a Field Trip to go on. Look at all the choices! And this isn't even all of them. It's the same for the Reading choices and for the General Links sections. Just so much info!! Oh and I don't want to forget the devotionals!

We haven't done much in the Sound unit, but the depth of information and videos are just as engaging and informative as the Fluid Dynamic unit. My son wants to finish one before moving on to the next unit. He also wanted to wait until all of his experiments were done before we continued, but I told him we could watch more videos and such while we work on the experiments.

Right now there are only 2 Global Topics. CrossWired Science believes that 8 topics will fill a year. They hope to be launching the rest of the topics over the next few months to finish out a year. And they have a lofty goal of having 24 to 30 overall for a finished product. Right now it's at the ground floor and with only the 2 Global Topics of Sound, and Fluid Dynamics, I think you would be set for 3 even 4 months of integrated science. It is a very flexible and thorough program. If you have a science lover then this is the program for you!

If you would like to check out a sample unit I'd highly suggest doing so.  There is so much packed into this program it would be hard to describe every aspect in detail. But you will want to read what others on the Crew thought of their experience with CrossWired Science and Sound, and Fluid Dynamics so you can do so by clicking the link below!
