Skating Camp

This week ALL 3 of my kiddos are going to Figure Skating Camp!! My son has worked really hard this year to be able to be in Freeskate 1 in order to go to camp.  As I'm sure you can imagine, it's a lot of physical work and this afternoon I am seeing signs of fatigue for sure. No one has succumbed to the illucid nap, but I'm not sure they will win on that one tomorrow. ;)

Each day is broken up into off ice and on ice classes that focus on different areas that will help improve them both as all around skaters and also for particular skills.  So far they have had:
Warm-up time,
Off ice conditioning and stretching,
On ice edge class,
On ice spin class,
On ice power class,
another on ice edge class
then a hip-hop style dance class (which dealt with some choreography),
and freestyle/open skate time where they can practice all the great stuff they have been learning and working on.

They are completely wiped out, BUT they LOVE IT!!! They still have a turns class, another spins class, another dance class, and artistry (fluidity on the ice both with and without music) to look forward to for the next 2 days. It has been a blast watching them really work hard on some skills they felt were out of their reach and with this intense focus they are blossoming in those skills.

Our rink is also offering what they are calling Summer Skating School where they can sign up for these classes and more to help improve their skills. There are like 8 weeks of Summer Skating School going on so I think we are going to try and hit week 4 (last week of this month) and then we'll see what we can do for July.

My kids are also in a homeschool summer class that is a shorter one -- just 6 weeks (during the 'school year' they are 8 week long sessions) which meets Friday mornings. So they are REALLY busy on the ice this summer.  Then add in their time at the pool ... seems all we do is spend time around water in it's liquid and solid forms. LOL!!!  Oh and hubby and I are curling a lot this month trying to prep for an upcoming bonspiel (tournament) -- keeping with the whole 'water' theme for our sports/hobbies.

What are your kids doing for camp this year? Have they ever been ice skating??
